Kumho Launches Its Most Advanced Performance Tyre Ever
Kumho Tyre Australia has launched its most advanced and accomplished ultra-high performance tyre ever with the arrival of the new Kumho Ecsta Sport PS72.
The new Kumho Ecsta Sport PS72 is the result of collaboration between Kumho’s European Technical Centre (KETC) in Germany and Kumho R&D headquarters in Korea, and is part of Kumho’s recently announced Premium Selection Range.

The Premium Selection Range contains three different Kumho Premium tyres, catering for a wide selection of performance and premium machines, with the range including the
Crugen HP71, the
Ecsta PS71 and this new Ecsta Sport PS72.
Kumho Tyre’s Premium Selection Range combines cutting-edge technology with premium materials, to offer a driving experience defined by superior traction, precision handling, and unparalleled durability.
The new Ecsta Sport PS72 is built for optimum sports performance. It delivers exceptional traction, braking, steering response, and high-speed stability. Engineered with advanced compound technology, it also improves mileage, boosts energy efficiency, and ensures EV compatibility. Designed for high-performance vehicles, it meets the latest environmental regulations without compromise.
The PS72 is optimised for compact sports vehicles such as the
Volkswagen Golf R,
BMW M2 and the
Mercedes Benz
AMG A and CLA 45, as well as mid-sized sports coupes and sedans such as the BMW M3 and M4,
Audi S and RS5, the
AMG C 63, BMW M5 and the
Porsche 911.
Fully EV compatible, it’s suitable for both general and high performance EVs. The PS72 Sport made its global debut at the massive SEMA exhibition in Las Vegas in November 2024 and will be available in over 56 sizes in Australia.
The new ultra-high performance PS72 is the most advanced tyre Kumho has ever developed, showcasing more than 60 years of design and engineering innovation.
Leveraging advancements in AI design technology and Kumho’s long standing relationships with major OE manufacturers, particularly in Europe, the tyre was developed through a process of rapid iterative design testing.
The new Ecsta Sport PS72 pushes the boundaries of innovation, delivering superior performance, enhanced grip, wet weather performance and overall tread life.
"We are introducing our most technologically advanced ultra-high performance tyres that set a new standard for what a high-performance tyre can and should be," said David Basha, Kumho Tyre Australia’s director of sales and marketing.
"Kumho continues to deliver superior tyres with exceptional durability at extremely competitive price points, which is what customers can and should expect from Kumho," Basha said.
"The Ecsta Sport PS72 product line sets Kumho apart in the ultra-high performance environment. The proof is in the detail, with our engineers in Europe and Korea leaving no stone unturned in their quest to design tyres with the goal of unleashing peak performance along with impressive wear characteristics," he added.
Head of Kumho European Technical Centre, Matthias Bode said that the new PS72 is the result of four years of dedicated research with the aim of positioning Kumho as a leading sports tyre brand in European and across global markets.
“To do this we have utilised the latest technologies along with outstanding materials to deliver better traction, braking and steering performance, a stable driving experience at high speeds, even above 300kmph,” said Bode.
“The PS72’s reinforced shape and internal structure, as well as the newly developed compound and thread pattern means it has been designed for sports driving, offering precise steering response and stability,” he said.
“In other words, drivers will be able to enjoy optimal sports driving under all driving conditions, including at high speeds on both dry and wet road surfaces, during cornering and in a straight line. The wet grip performance, which is an essential safety factor, must be an integral part of a sports driving experience, and this characteristic has been significantly improved.”
The PS72’s dry grip performance has improved by 5-10%, ensuring drivers can expect excellent control and response during sharp cornering and at high speed.
Kumho recognises that this is an important factor for drivers who seek high performance experiences with their machines.
Bode explained that the PS72’s new compound, which was created by a combination of new technologies, has significantly enhanced sports performance, along with mileage improvement and energy efficiency.
“The specially designated compound has been developed to maximise traction so that the engine's performance and power can be delivered entirely to the road surface, while enduring heat better and ensuring even tyre wear, as well as a substantially increased mileage.”
Kumho engineers have achieved a 15 per cent increase in tyre mileage for the PS72 during the exhaustive test program the tyre was subjected to during its four year development life.
The new PS72 has also been designated to reduce rolling resistance, by minimising energy loss while the tyre is rolling, contributing to improved fuel consumption efficiency that satisfies even the latest stringent European regulations.
Kumho Tyres is a global tyre company, producing some of the world's best tyres and operates a total of eight tyre manufacturing plants, both at home in South Korea and abroad, as well as eight overseas subsidiaries and 14 overseas branch offices.
