Kumho PS71 EV Chosen As OE Fit On New Chery Omoda E5 Electric

Another significant vehicle manufacturer has announced it has chosen Kumho Tyres as original equipment on a new battery electric model.

Chery Australia has revealed the specifications for its new
Chery Omoda E5 EV which includes 215/55 x18 Kumho Ecsta PS71 EV tyres as standard equipment across the range.

Chery joins some of the highest profile brands in the automotive industry in embracing Kumho Tyres as original equipment, particularly on new generation electric vehicles, including Volkswagen, which has fitted them to its new ID4 and ID.Buzz models.

Other major brands to specify
Kumho Tyres as OE fitment includes BMW, which has fitted Kumho to its 1-Series, 2-Series, 3-Series, 5-Series and X3,  and Mercedes-Benz which in recent months has selected Kumho as OE fitment on its high performance G-Wagon SUV

Kumho has been, and continues to supply original equipment tyres for flagship electric vehicle models from major automakers, showcasing its top-level product technology and premium brand value.

According to Kumho Tyre Australia’s national sales and marketing director, David Basha, the PS71 EV is a sports performance tyre designed for driving refinement while delivering stable driving with superb handling and short braking distances on both wet and dry surfaces.

“It is clear that a growing number of manufacturers have assessed the performance of the Kumho PS71 EV before choosing it for OE fitment, and Chery has been added to this list by fitting it to its new Omoda E5,” said David Basha.

“It’s not just manufacturers who have recognised the performance and capabilities of the PS71 EV, some of the world’s most discerning and experienced tyre testers have strongly recommended it,” he added.

The PS71 EV employs a high dispersion ‘micro silica’ compound that is designed to
maximise wear, handling performance and fuel efficiency, particularly with new age battery electric vehicles.

Kumho engineers have maximised driving performance via the PS71’s EV four wide main grooves to direct water drainage out of the tread area.

It has also had its durability Increased through the application of a new hybrid cap ply made of steel belts that strengthen the casing, while the inclusion of a fabric inserts into the sidewall have been added to provide extra rigidity

The Kumho PS71 EV has been praised in a variety of independent tyre tests across the globe including the esteemed German motoring journal, AutoBild, which said the PS71 ‘delivered balanced high performance, with good handling qualities and short wet and dry braking distances for a fair price’.

It went on to say that the PS71 EV was the ‘first tyre in the test, where you felt like you were driving the car, rather than managing some sort of situation constantly, and it had consistent grip’.

Global tyre manufacturer Kumho Tyre has announced that it has launched a new tyre digital twin system at its global headquarters in Seoul, marking a major step in the company’s efforts to digitalise its tyre development process. Shifting from traditional physical testing to virtual tyre development, Kumho says the new system enables the automatic design of multiple tyre versions using digital data and big data-based performance predictions. Kumho says its Digital Twin system shifts tyre development from traditional physical methods to a dynamic virtual environment and comes in response to the growing demand for digital transformation among automakers along with stricter environmental regulations. This allows design engineers to generate tyre designs, predict performance, optimise designs, and simulate vehicle performance - all within a digital framework. Using artificial intelligence (AI), the system selects the optimal design, and follows this up with a virtual evaluation based on vehicle dynamics analysis to verify tyre performance. “Tyres must meet strict standards for rolling resistance, braking, wear, comfort and noise reduction,” said the head of Kumho Tyre’s Virtual Product Development Centre Kim Keewoon. “Emphasising the need to optimise key design factors like compounds, tread patterns, structure and shape for more efficient testing and improvement of these elements,” he added. Kumho Tyre expects to shorten development timelines, improve performance and reduce costs with this system.

When preparing for an off-road adventure, choosing the right tyres for your 4x4 is crucial. The right set of tyres can mean the difference between conquering rugged trails and getting stuck in a muddy mess. With so many options available, it’s important to understand the differences between various types of off-road tyres. In this guide, we’ll explore the features and benefits of mud-terrain and all-terrain tyres to help you make an informed decision for your next adventure. Understanding Your Tyre Options: Mud-Terrain Tyres: The Kumho Road Venture MT71 / MT51 Mud-terrain tyres, like the Kumho Road Venture MT71, are engineered for extreme off-road conditions. These tyres feature an aggressive tread pattern with deep, wide lugs designed to provide maximum traction in muddy, rocky, and uneven terrains. The robust sidewalls and softer rubber compound enhance grip and durability, allowing your vehicle to navigate steep inclines and rough surfaces with ease. Mud-terrain tyres excel in off-road conditions, but they do have some drawbacks on paved roads. These tyres can be noisier and may not offer the same level of handling and fuel efficiency as all-terrain tyres. All-Terrain Tyres: The Kumho Road Venture AT52 All-terrain tyres, like the Kumho Road Venture AT52, strike a balance between off-road capability and on-road comfort. These tyres are designed for drivers who split their time between highways and off-road trails. The tread pattern provides adequate traction in a variety of conditions, making them versatile for different terrains. All-terrain tyres are ideal for weekend warriors and those who need a reliable tyre for both daily driving and occasional off-road excursions.
